To take full advantage of modern film sound tracks, six speakers
are required:
- A pair of speakers left and right of the screen.
- A centre speaker placed either above or below the screen. This
speaker is the most important speaker in the system as is does the lions share of
the work reproducing a Dolby film sound track. It provides all the dialogue and most of
the action for the movie.
- A pair of surround speakers placed either side, behind and above the
viewing position to provide off-screen sound effects.
- Finally an optional subwoofer that can be placed virtually anywhere
in the room. This subwoofer delivers the extra bass for explosions and adds more depth for
music.

- Every speaker produces a magnetic field, place a
speaker too close to a television and it produces a bleeding of the colours
effect, which left long enough can permanently damage the TV set. Home
Theatre speakers should have magnetic shielding to protect your
television. The more powerful the speaker, the worse the
problem.
