The screen is by far the most important item in the Home Theatre. With the Australian introduction of Digital Television in 2001, we will be receiving free to air programs with excellent picture and sound quality and in 16:9 Widescreen. You will have noticed that more and more television stations are showing Widescreen programs produced both in Australia and overseas. This will increase as the television stations start test transmission late in the year 2000. To take advantage of the upcoming DTV and the current DVD technology, the choice is limited to three types of Widescreen Screens. 16:9 Rear Projection Television, Video Projector and Plasma Screen. The Plasma Screen is by far the most expensive, followed by the Video Projector and the Rear Projection Television. When choosing a television or a video projector, the in-store demos need to be viewed cautiously. Most TVs have the sharpness set too high and the balance between contrast and brightness set incorrectly. A standard 4:3 Television does not have the 16:9 Enhanced mode, and does not do justice to a Widescreen movie.
